"Hablo Espanol?" For the last month and a half we have been given the opportunity to enjoy Speekee online. Speekee is a series of Spanish immersion programs designed especially for kids ages 2-10. Speekee is a life sized puppet that sings, talk, and interacts with children completely in Spanish. The episodes remind me of Sesame Street, and the song are very catchy. There are currently 10 episodes available that cover such topics as, the park, beach, cafe, zoo, grocery store, school, and more.
Along with the episodes they have fun teaching tips and printable worksheets that correlate with what is being taught. All 10 episodes have English subtitles, but contain 100% Spanish audio. One super neat feature is that if you have a Wii you can watch the episodes right on your TV. For some reason the subtitles do not show up when you view through the Wii, but that didn't really bother me. Speekee is from the United Kingdom, so the DVD version may not work for US DVD players. Speekee online is available everywhere for a monthly fee of £4.95, or $7.50. One other thing to note about the program is since it is made in the UK the Spanish spoken is Spain Spanish. I honestly could not tell much difference between that and Mexican Spanish, but I'm told there can be small differences. I can personally vouch that this program works. We have used many Spanish games, videos etc. in the past, and nothing got my kids speaking Spanish like Speekee. Sweetpea, and Buttercup love this program, and ask to watch it daily. Buster found it a bit babyish, but he still learned some new words from it. If you are looking for a fun introduction to Spanish for your young children then I would highly recommend Speekee, Spanish for children. If Speekee interests you at all head over to their website and sign up for a free trial, you will not be disappointed.
